What a suprise - Posted on 12:34 PM CET Sunday 20 Dec 2009 In Sonic News
Manic Man
Sonic News icon Hey, What a surprise, the Sonic Chess Set has been delaied to the 20th of January 2010, but i seam to have found out why.. Let me explain..

Back in 1940, Marty Bromely, Lrving Bromberg and James Humpert, while living in Honolulu, Hawaii, founded the company 'Standard Games' to provide Coin-Operated Amusement (Games) for American Servicemen at the variouse military bases. By 1951, Marty Bromely had suggested that the company move to Tokyo, Japan, and in May 1952, registered the company under a new name 'Service Games of Japan'. In 1954, David Rosen (American) moved to Tokyo and created Rosen Enterprises Inc to export art and such like. A little later, he started to import coin-operated Instand Photo Booths and for some reason, they REALLY took off in Japan. In 1965, Rosen Enterprises Inc and Service Games merged to create SEGA Enterprises.

In 1969, Gulf&Western purchased Sega and Rose, who was currently SEGA CEO, remained and the company really did well, Even creating a large Screen TV range 'Sega-Vision'. SEGA were also booming in the video game arcades with many 'firsts' in the fields with games like Zaxxon and Hang-On.. In the Early 1980s, Sega got great revenues and released there first home console the SG-1000. When the Video Game Crash happened in 1983, Gulf&Western sold the US side of SEGA to Bally Manufacturing Corporation and the Japanese side was bought by Rosen, Hayao Nakayama, Esco Boueki and a group of investors. Nakayama became the new CEO of SEGA and Rosen was given charge of the US subsidiary. In 1984, the CSK Conglomerate bought SEGA Enterprises and renamed it SEGA Enterprises LTD, with it's HQ in Japan. Isao Okawa, a Friend of David Rosen and Chairman of CSK, became the new Chairman of SEGA. With Video Games coming back into fashion since the crash, in 1986, Sega of America was formed to handle the American side of things.

Skiping ahead a bit to before Okawa died in 2001, he gave the company a private donation of $695.7 Million as well as talking to Microsoft about a sale or merge with the XBox range, but these failed. In 2002, Sega's last console the 'DreamCast' and there stupid ideas of 'rebooting' alot of there product ranges had failed and Sega was in trouble with 5 Fiscal year of net lose in a go. SEGA was now in debt. In 2003, they had announced plans to merge with 'Sammy' but these fell though. Talks also happened with Namco, Bandai, Electronic Arts and Microsoft (for the second time). Sega decided to stop producing Consoles and moved just to software, affecting many of Sega's branchs. This led to them selling Sega's australian side to Infogrames. In August of 2003, Sammy bought CSK's shares in Sega and Chairman Hajime Satomi became the new head of SEGA. In 2004, Sammy bought the rest of Sega Corporation creating Sega Sammy Holdings. Sega Reabsored it's second party Studios and reordered things.

Well, i'll skip the rest. Needless to say, Sega is still in pretty bad shape as a company and due to it's new 'Make Money nothing else!' ideas and restructing, there are 3 main groups of Sega.. Sega of Japan, Sega of America and Sega of Europe.. Sega of Europe is pretty much controlled by Sega of Germany. Now the problem is, Sega of Europe and Sega of American get on all right but there games aren't great.. In fact, they never had been. Sega of Japan, however, like to keep tight control on some of there more 'profitable' ranges. While we have seen a raise in 'Retro Sonic' gear, Sega of Japan is know at stuff a state that you can't do a thing without there say so and they aren't in a great hurry to give it.. it at all. Even Sega of Germany (with a recent 'in a hurry' job) had to 'cheat' Sega of Japan in order to get something they needed/wanted.

I'm probebly not explaining this well, but it's tricky and a mix of 'insider' information (i'm not on the inside, god forbid) but things like the Chess set is being delaied because Sega of Japan is not even bothing to look at license requests and sometimes, they seam to be giving them, but then taking them back, or charging an AMAZINGLY high amount of money for them. Thus everything is in a mess. There are, of course, rumours that Sega have a new console on the way within the next two years (due to approved patents for Saturn & Megadrive like stuff) and Sega seams to be wanting to explain it's online gambling section too.. oh well..

In Short: The delay in the chess set is probebly due to SOJ not wanting to give final permission..

Manic Man
Sonic News icon Lets see.. Atlest 3 New Sonic DVD sets have been announced for Next year. again, Since the Boxsets are out, these are just collections of about 4 episode each. Information should be added to TESP (along with Cover shots that have been released) later in the week but for now, here are the ones that are known:

AOSTH - Sonic Who?
-16th March 2010
This one seams to deal with Episodes where Sonic has been dressed up or something. From the Cover, Episodes appear to be 'Birth of a Salesman', 'Musta Been a Beautiful Baby', 'The Magnificent Sonic' & 'Robo-Ninjas'.

SatAM - Sonic Forever
- 16th March 2010
Cover shot is out but seamly impossible to work out what storys might be on it. However, a description hints the Episodes are, "Fed Up with Antoine / Ghost Busted", "The Odd Couple / Ro-Becca" & Either "Game Guy" or "No Brainer". No idea about the Three.

AOSTH- Let's Race!
- 1st June 1020
No cover shot has been released so from the title, we can guess it is about racing, so a guess would be that it contents 'High Stakes Sonic' (he has to Race grounder at the end, and Lose!), 'Mass Transit Trouble' (He has to travel to round the world to three different ends and then do it again to be in three places at nearly the same time), 'Robo-Lympics'.. (there is a race as part of them) & 'The Mobius 5000' (where he needs to enter a race car in order to save an orphanage).

Also, a small note, about this year or last, a Latin American (odd term since it's really mexcian which is spanish not latin.. ¬_¬) released a Sonic SatAM DVD spoken in Spanish. Volume 1 is all i know was out and it was renamed 'Sonic the Adventures' even though it was SatAM. Go figure. Any one here know much about Spanish spoken Sonic?
Add and fix - Posted on 11:06 AM CET Tuesday 15 Dec 2009 In TESP News
Manic Man
TESP News icon Okay, Manic Search (The TESP Search Engine) has been improved again.. First, no-one told me about a small bug in it once i added Comic download options which meant you couldn't search for Comic artists or Writers that well. Nevermind, that's fixed now And i have also added Comic Characters so if you search for 'Amy' you will also find the Character Profiles for her in each comic she was in.. well, out of the main 3 since most others were translation/reprints of them (even though it's only Amy Rose in two of the Three Comics).

Enjoy
Gotten ... well, that's about all i know - Posted on 5:29 PM CET Monday 14 Dec 2009 In TESP News
Manic Man
TESP News icon I must admit, i was holding on to these in the vain hope of some help.. but oh well.. I'll run with this and still carry on looking around for help.

Oh dear, i better explain what i'm talking about huh? Today, i have uploaded Volume 1 and Volume 3 of the German Sonic Audio Series. Volume 1 'Auf der Insel der Robotertiere' (On the Island of Robots) starts the story of Sonic fight against the evil Doctor Ivo Robotnik.
Volume 3 'Dr.Ivo Robotnik dreht durch' (Dr Ivo Robotnik Revs Up) deals with the end as Doctor Ivo Robotnik has Hanni and Sonic has to save her and put an end to Robotnik once and for all..

I won't give much away but WHOA! What a shocker ending.. Can't understand too much of it though.. which is WHY i want the help of anyone that speaks german. If you just know german and you are reading this via a translator, don't worry, that's fine. All i need is for it to be writen down.. yes, in german is fine! I'll take it from there. Oh well.. I'm looking around for help but so far.. No dice..

Oh, if you didn't know, i already have part 2 up so that's all 3 parts now. I don't know where the rips for parts 1 and 3 come from since i can't get hold of the oringal tapes, but they are good and thanks to who ever was able to rip them ^_^. I kinda wish i knew who it was.. not only could i get a good cast list from the case but maybe they could help with translation work..
Card Time - Posted on 2:23 PM CET Monday 14 Dec 2009 In TESP News
Manic Man
TESP News icon The File size is a little larger then normal but our 6th Annual Flash Christmas Card is now out! You can click on all 4 characters in it for something different to happen (I would suguest clicking on Sonic last, but it doesn't really matter). Find that in the Christmas Cards Section under 'Site' on the Menu. I hope you guys enjoy this. Bluedude helped with the layouts by filling in a little storyboard for me (3 panels) and i took it from there.

Manic Man
TESP News icon Sorry about this but i noticed the other day and i just got around to doing something about it.. Japanese Characters now display.. there was a bit of problem with the Text encoding so they wouldn't come out at all and it came up errors.. All fixed now, though watch out if you don't have japanese text support installed (why not?), then it'll look like junk symbols. but you should be fine.
