You have probably heard by now that the UK is going to get a new MegaDrive. Which is due for Release on the 24th of April, this is by the people that bought us the world's first handheld megadrive...or so they claimed.. We all know that was not true as the Sega Nomad came out about 10 years before that.

Anyway, back to business.. This console features two controllers, 15-built in games ( many of which are the same as the handheld) and it can play MegaDrive and genesis cartridges from all regions.. or so they claim. Let's have a better look at it..

We can't tell if that Cart slot is big enough for the Japanese games, so we can't stay if it can play all regions but there are other problems. It will probably send out data as NTSC so you will need a TV that can support NTSC.. a lot do these days but that is something to be careful of.

It looks like you can unplug the controllers so you should be able to use your old Megadrive and related Controllers, so that should not be a problem.

Will they be re-issuing MegaDrive games?
No. You have to buy them second hand.. Or use your own old ones.. But if you have a good collection, you probably already have a MegaDrive making this console a bit pointless..

It looks like your mega-CD (mk1 or mk2) will not work on this console so Don't try to plug it in, nor will your Master System power base as i doubt they have including all the Master System parts from the original.
If this is the case(and i believe it will be) there will most likely be problems playing some of the games as the Master System parts were used for a couple of reasons.

Could you use a 32X?
not sure.. we will have to wait and see.

This system is meant to be perfect for home retro gamers as the company say they are working for the retro gaming fans!
Is this the case?
This would not seam to be the case. This console comes with a £39 price tag, which would put it out of my 'worth it' range and you can probably would find a better Mk1 or Mk2 (maybe even the rarer Mk3) MegaDrives which would be better for half the price. (and with a much better design i may add)

Another sign that this company doesn't seam to be a big fan of retro gamers is that lack of tec specs. We don't know if this is the basic Sound system of the Mk1 or the improved (but missing Headphone Jack) of the Mk2. As said before, it comes with only 15 games, where as the handheld (which comes at a cheaper price, but still too much for my liking) had 20 and they are far from being the best the MegaDrive had to offer. The only Sonic Game this time is Sonic and Knuckles.

All in all, if you are a young kid without any of the New console MegaDrive Collections, well, this probably still isn't worth it. As those collections often come with more games for less (the PS3 and X-box versions come with 40 games which include what is here for only £25). If you want to bring back the old days and live in the world of us classic Gamers, then you are probably going to have better fun getting an old MegaDrive, they aren't hard to find.

This console is trying to get the same success the cheaper reissue Plug-in-play Megadrives, the Genesis Mk3 and the 2000 reissue Game-Gear got. (at lest the game-gear reissued a bunch of Carts.)
