lets see now.. I'll explain a bit about Niles Nemo and then about the update i just did to the Comics (a new 'Misc section') and to the PDF Archive.
Back in 1990, A US Sega gaming mag called Sega Visions started and as with alot of mags, they had there own short Comic strip.. and like most, it didn't really last long. First appearing in Issue 1 and created and always done by the team of writer Bill Kunkel and artist Dave Sullivan, Niles Nemo was a extreme gamer who just loved nothing more then to get home from school to play on his Sega Genesis and when he wasn't playing on that, he was playing on a Sega Game Gear or Master System. Niles was a prime exemple of peoples views on 'cool kids' of the time. he had a patch of hair on top, with a short shaved job on the back, with the word 'SEGA' shaved into it, He wore dark Sunglasses with the word 'Genesis' writen on the sides, a pink big jacket and some standard gear. Everyone knew Niles Nemo and knew he was 'cool' and a gamer. After school, Niles would come home, get a pizza deliveried from Bob and Al's house of Pizza (by a guy called Preston) and after hours of eating pizza and playing Sega, he would get tried and when he fell asleep, he entered the dream world of Segaland! In Segaland he would have many adventures in the games he had been playing. Issue 1 had him enter Papercock and meet Alex Kidd, Issue 2 he when backstage to see how the Genesis runs (a director showed him all the men that get the blocks ready and how they move them down the screen via pullies). I'm not sure about issue 3, but Issue 4 was a good example of copyright problems as he went to Meet Mickey Mouse. How often have you seen a 2 page story about a mickey mouse game where you only have the character appearing off-screen?. Niles was missing from Issue 5 but back for Issue 6 where he had a very bad 'Shinobi' dream (it's not pretty much NOTHING to do with Shinobi -_-). Also in that issue, he started a contest. The advert is already on this site in the printed ads page.
His final story was in issue 7 where Niles Nemo and a special guest that had won the contest, got to meet Sonic the Hedgehog himself! though oddly, Sonic didn't talk at all. After that, new editors took over the mag and Niles wasn't seen again.
The 2 page Sonic story is of intrest to us for three reasons. 1, it's Sonic the Hedgehog! 2, its Sonic's Second comic appearance (as far as i can work out. It was before the archie Comic and after the Mao Promo comic ) and 3? Sonic appears to be shown to attack the Wrecking ball which Robotnik uses at the end of GreenHill.. Why is that of intrest? It has been said and beta shots comfirm, that it was oringally ment to be an object in the level. Maybe as well as for Robotnik. Some things seam to hint it might have been used much like the logs in the Jungle Zone of the GG version, Sonic would have to keep his balance while running on top.. Though the Size, seams to hint he would have to run from it, but that doesn't seam to go with it's location.. Anyway, this comic shows Sonic attacking it and braking it. While it might be a complete LACK of knowledge in the game, it's more likely they have been shown a early release copy or clips via the Demo Video. So.. we aren't sure if this was one big mistake or a clue into Beta Sonic 1.
Anyway.. This little two pager is now up in a New Comics section called 'Misc' or in the PDF archive page. Enjoy
