NOTE:- Since this was writen, a rought storyboard animation of an so called 'Unmade' Intro to SatAM has been shown. This cells Do infact come from that intro showing it was probbly produced. I believe for the Heads or Tails pilot episode but it is unknown.
Sonic Animation has been a major Source and Subject of Intrest for a long time, even before the First Cartoon was ever Animated, there was a fair amount of intrest in the subject. Let's first work over some Background Information.
When Sonic was starting to grow more and more popular, With Sonic 2 in the works, DIC (a Canadian Based Animation Company) was working on some Animation for Sonic. The First of Which release was 'Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog'. This Featured Sonic and (the new Character) Tails. They went around Mobuis fighting Robotnik!. This was made for a Repeat viewing. They are 2 types of TV Show really, Syndicate and Network. Syndicate is made so they can pretty much show them every day and it doesn't really matter too much if it is a bit out of order or you missed one or two, mostly they go for Bulk episodes more then Grade of Animation etc... This was the case with AOSTH. Also, at the same time, they were making 'Sonic the Hedgehog'. This Still featured Sonic and Tails, but Tails had a smaller role as Sonic would be in a group of Freedom Fighters that were trying to free the world from Robotnik. This show was a Network show, which meant that there was better animation BUT less episodes. Mostly it was duing Series 2 of the show, that the Network side came into play with the Story lines (same with other Network shows).
When these Shows were being made, English comic 'Sonic the Comic' did a bit on the new shows. They showed the New AOSTH Style Robotnik and some Screenshots of the 'Freedom Team'. But things were still not all given. In between this format for the show and the finished one, there were about 3 scripts down and 1 of these known to be animated. The Animation episode was called 'Heads or Tails'. This shows the characters in the SatAM setting but they are different. Some Colours were the main things different but also some character design and even story. The Episode 'Heads or Tails' was aired as the Last Episode in the first SatAM Series. To this day, most people believe that it was all that was made from that set.. Now, TESP has 2 images (given by a Unknown Person) which show Some Characters in that kind of Style BUT were not ever Animation! Please do not take without permission. Click to see Full Size.
This First Image shows Sonic Teasing some Swat Bots as he walks away from them. The SwatBots are in Head or Tails Colours (even program they were black with blue highlights). Also the Background is much lighter then SatAM with Robotroplis having trees? But the second is more of intrest.
Here we can see the same style of background with 6 tubs in the forground. It looks like the animals are falling out of the tubes to the bottom. The 5 Animals (from left to right) are all background ones shown in the Episode and have no real intrest (but the 2nd looks like a hedgehog really don't he?). The last one, is the most intrest. It's Bunny Rabbot in her Heads or Tails colours.. But look at her arm and legs? Not Robotasized! Could this be from a story in which she gets Robotasized? are they Robotasizing tubes? They do look a little like it.
From the Storylines in one of the earlier Plot outlines for the show, this frame doesn't seam to go with any of the episodes (Bug Off is about 'Bonnie Rabbot' finding a Robot Computer bug. The Quest is about Robotnik using a Robot King to try and lure out the Freedom fighters, and Heads or tails is about Sonic trying to find Muttski (his dog) with Tails trying to tag along.
