Hoaxs and Rumours
There are a Number of Rumours and Hoaxs to do with Sonic. But which ones are true and which are false? Here we will do our best to answer that for you!
All Rumours we have been present here are looked at and research is done to find out the truth or most likey truth behind it. We will say the statues of the Rumour. If we have proven it false we say that, if it might be true but 98% or more chance and things say it is False, we well tell you etc.

Tails was oringally going to be Female Until the US moaned
# MOST LIKEY FALSE
Oh do people still believe this? Tails has always been Miles Prower, in fact, alot of the earlyer Japanese stuff seams to use the Name Miles Prower more then Tails (Look at Sonic 2, the options Screen Text is Sonic/Miles and same in the Casino Night Zone. Both could easly be Sonic/Tails but they aren't. When Hacking the files in the Sonic Animated Screensaver, one would notice Tails Files are labeled more as 'Miles' Not Tails. Now, we could say this was changed after he was changed from a her, that's no problem. But there is nothing to say he was ever a she. Now the rumour says Sega of America was a bit ify with that fact of a Young girl following Sonic about so Tails was changed to being Male.. Okay.. they fear a Male/Female relationship but no problem with a Male/male one? A number of years earlyer (1983 really), Jim Davis had to remove Jon's old Friend and roommate Lyman from his Comic Strip 'Garfield' due to fears that a single guy living with another single guy meant they were gay.. dumb that but true. Now, this being the case, would the same Americans say Sonic with a Girlfriend (or even, just a female friend) was a problem but with a Male friend wasn't? that makes no sense, and a year later, Sonic CD was released with Sonic having a Girl Friend, Amy Rose (which for a small bit, she does follow him around). This rumour is cased as MOST LIKEY FALSE because this doesn't 100% mean it is false and even the people at the time will probbly be a bit unsure so there is really no way to say it is 100% likey to be False.. But it is 98% Likey to be False.

Yuji Naka forced Sonic X-treme to be Canceled
# FALSE
Well. when i say False, there is SOME truth. After showing off what was made at the time and deciding to take a bit of a change for Sonic X-treme, The team wanted to use the Nights into Dreams engine to make Sonic X-treme but after 3 months of gettin ready to use the engine, the late running project was told that Yuji Naka would not allow them to use the Engine. Time was limited as it was and this didn't help matters. Sonic X-treme was canceled with Lead Programmer Chris Coffin fell ill with pneumonia and it was felt the project could not be completed in time.

Chris Senn did some Sonic X-treme Music
# FALSE
What the? Chris Senn was the Designer/ Artist on Project Condor (Sonic X-treme). That was his job. Howard Drossin was the Music and Sound Effects Director at SOA. He was doing the Music for Sonic X-treme. Or atlest, he was PROBBLY doing the Music for Sonic X-treme, details are a bit unsure there but basicly all things say he did do it. Chris Senn clearly did not. I don't know where this rumour started but i do know that Chris Senn is meant to have released a number of his Sonic X-treme concept art to the public.. some of which has been looked at and basicly i have been told that it was NOT his style at the time so there for some of the work has ever been edited or done AFTER the project. I would say it is just people thinking images are from Sonic X-treme when they are not be he doesn't seam to say they aren't. Note that after the Interview with Mike Wallis was done, a couple of e-mails were sent (as suggested) to Chris Senn but he never replied.

The Planet Name of 'Mobius' was from a mistake
# UNKNOWN
It is said by a number of sources that the planet name of Mobius was taken from a mistranslation of an interview with Yuji Naka were he said Sonic 2 useds a Mobius Strip. Now, mostly i was always under the idea that it was meant to be named Mobius because the game was always going right in an endless loop really a 'flat' world which is endless. Now this might not be fully true but still. I can't say if the rumour is true or not. There are other reasons where the name might have come from (like i said) and it is basicly true that none of the Japanese games seam to say the name of Planet 'Mobius' nor Planet 'Earth'. It was just South Island, the Little Planet, The Floating island etc but would appear (and seams mean to have been) Earth. The Japanese OVA which is basicly semi-Offical does call the Planet 'Planet Freedom', this hints that no oringal planet name was picked (Also makes sense since Naka and a couple others are producers, they would be able to correct small mistakes like that). I have been doing research and i have found most Pre-release US/UK adverts and such for Sonic 1 call the planet 'Mobius'. Now, though it is not always the case, i am pretty sure this is BEFORE alot of work had started on Sonic 2 and if i could find the oringal interview in question, i think i would find out that it was done AFTER other things already called the Planet 'Mobius'

In the Sonic 3 Boss Music, Micheal Jackson does the voical line.
# FALSE
Rumours get more stupid as they go don't they? In the Sonic 3 Boss music, there is a vocal line or two. The first is a male voice saying 'Come on'. There is also the words 'Hey', and 'Whooa'. I don't think much of Micheal Jackson at all really but whatever the case, why would they get a name singer to do a basic job? it would probbly cost them more then the price to make the game to get him! Now, the voice could be computer made but from the grade i doubt it. So it is probbly just someone on staff. How ever it was, it doesn't sound like and is very VERY unlikey to be Micheal Jackson.

Knuckles' Sonic3&Knuckles Story is set AFTER Sonic's
# FALSE
Not a stupid idea but they are meant to be at the same time. You could moan that how can they both do the same levels and fight the same boss (well.. mostly the same). It is the problem with any Mutli-character game. In Sonic 2, the 'Offical' Story line is the one with Sonic & Tails but you can play as Sonic going Solo or Tails Solo.. they can't all be cannon, only the first one is. In the Street Fighter games, Which ever character you win the game as, you get the winner story that they have won the Tournament. But Offically, there is only 1 winner. The Biohazard games (Resident Evil) do a good job of different 'parts' of the story but even then, not both is 100% correct.. Some games DO have each character with there own part of the story which don't really mess up the other one but it's rare and them games are often games that swap between characters more then give you the choice at the start.

When the Creator Left Sega, he took his Character 'Mighty' with him
# False
Manabu Kusunoki, i believe was the creator and i am not sure he has left Sega really, though he might have by now. Either way, Even when a Company like Sega hire a Freelancer, it is mostly under the deal that any thing they create for the company is there owned by the Company. This isn't always the case, since Sometimes games that are first TV shows aren't owned by the Game Company BUT owned by the TV company or whatever owners. I can talk about the comic 'Groo' which had a long bit in Creator Own characters, or with Steve Gerber, or Jim Starlin and Archie Goodwin. All had a fair bit to do with Creator owned characters. In the old days (and alot today) if a writer created a character for a company, it was owned by that company for them to do with as they like. Groo was an Early comic that was able to do Creator-owned characters in a comic, Steve Gerber created Howard the Duck and then sued Marvel (which lead to creating Duke 'Destoryer' Duck in a issue printed to get the money for the law suit) for taking his character. Am on his side but the fact of the matter should be He did the character at marvel, there for they own it (i have heard a bit of information which is MORE on Steves side but.. oh well). Jim Starlin and Archie Goodwin helped create and work out Epic inprint of Marvel Comics which was for Creator-owned characters. Either way, in most cases (mostly TV still) The Creator doesn't own the character. If i wrote an episode of Simpsons and created a character for that Episode, it would be owned by Fox and the Creators of the Simpsons, NOT me. I might be able to make a deal where i own it but it probbly wouldn't be worth it and they could get ANY writer who would be happy to give them a character with no problem. Mighty is owned by Sega simple as that. If he wasn't then his second game apperances, Comic apperances and such like would have cost them are fair bit since they would have had to ask and pay for permission to use the character.. and he would have a say over how the character was handled.. The short of the matter is, they wouldn't pay SOOO much more for a character they need to pay and ask premission for when they would easily get a 'free' character of there own.
